Having spent my life in small communities, I know you're a newcomer if you've lived in a small town for less than fifty years. Since I'm just finishing my second year at Hansen, I'm REALLY a newcomer. Although I'm new to the community, I know that Bob Wayment is someone special, and the type of person every community needs.
Bob began working for the Hansen School District in 1983 and has served as maintenance supervisor, transportation supervisor, bus driver, athletic director, and in various coaching positions. Whatever students needed, Bob was willing to give. It is bittersweet to report that Bob has resigned from his coaching positions. He plans to move out of the area to spend quality time with his wife, Catherine.
While reflecting upon Bob's legacy, I found this poem that I think is fitting.
Life Well Lived
A life well lived is a precious gift
Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world
A brighter, better place.
It's filled with moments, sweet and sad
With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared
And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy
Of joy and pride and pleasure,
A living, lasting memory
Our grateful hearts will treasure.

There are so many lines in this poem that make me think of Bob and his impact on our school community and other schools in the region. As a tribute to his legacy, the athletic department has created an award in his name - the Bob Wayment Above and Beyond Award. The award will be given to students who regularly exceed expectations to serve those around them. The inaugural recipient of the award is Ayden Egbert.
Everyone at Hansen School District wishes Bob and his wife, Catherine, all the best in their adventures!
