Hansen Jr/Sr High School

Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Hansen Jr./Sr. High School. As I enter my seventh year as principal at Hansen Jr./Sr. High School, I am reminded of how lucky I am to serve in such a great community with extraordinary teachers, staff, and of course STUDENTS.

The beginning of the school year brought several changes to our regular school procedures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to ensure student and staff safety, we are highly encouraging masks, asking students to social distance, sanitizing hands as they go into each class and sanitizing the desks as they leave. We are offering “breakfast in the classroom” and “grab-n-go” lunches to students. We also are asking parents to screen their children each morning for symptoms and keeping them home if they are sick. It is our goal to work together with parents to keep our students in school.

We are excited to introduce three new members of our HUSKY faculty. Nick Gonzales will be teaching 7-12 Science and coaching girls basketball, Staci Carter will serve as our 7-12 Special Education Teacher, and Amanda Chaney will be leading our Ag Science Department.

One of the most important aspects of educating students today is to prepare them for their life after high school; whether they are going to college, joining the Armed Forces, or starting a career. Creating college and career ready students is being done by our extraordinary staff of highly qualified teachers! Students in grade 7-12, are encouraged to take advantage of the Advanced Opportunities funding provided to them through our state legislature. Students are encouraged to take classes to get ahead with all the expenses being covered by the state of Idaho. Mrs. Hamilton, our school counselor, can be contacted for more information on this excellent opportunity for our students.

As a way to start measuring student progress towards college and career readiness benchmarks, Hansen Jr/Sr High School will continue PST testing our 8th and 9th grade students, along with the 10th and 11th graders.

As I continue my journey as a Hansen Husky, I invite parents and community members to come to the school and see what great things our students are doing. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, concerns, or ideas.

Here’s to another exciting year at Hansen Jr./Sr. High School! As always, it’s a great day to be a HUSKY!

Jr/Sr. High School Principal
